Like the White-breasted Nuthatch, this reckless little buddy walks upside-down, sideways, and is relatively unconcerned by my physical presence. Large groups swarm to feeders several times daily. |

Pygmy Nuthatch Sitta pygmaea L 4¼" (11 cm) Gray-black cap; creamy-buff under parts Pale nape spot visible at close range. Dark eye line bordering cap is distinct in interior populations. Call: A high rapid peep peep and a piping wee-bee; grouped in three or more notes. Range: Favors yellow-pine forest. Roams in lose flocks. |
