Curious little creature; fearless, reckless, numerous. Not the smartest bird in the bush; walks upside-down, sideways, and right into the clutches of waiting preditors. Behavior is similar to that of smaller cousin, the Pygmy Nuthatch. |

White-breasted Nuthatch Sitta carolinensis L 5¾" (15 cm) Black cap tops all-white face and breast; extent of rust below is variable. Long, thin bill, blue wing and tail with white highlights. Call: A rapid series of nasal whistles on one pitch. Range: Common; found in leafy trees in the east, oaks and conifers in the west |
